Summer School „Hydrological Extreme Events”

The first HyCo-Geo Summer School took place from 26 to 30 September 2022. Under the topic of extreme hydrological events, a wide range of experts from science and practice introduced students to the theory and practice of water management. Particularly in view of climate change, a conscious and forward-looking approach to water, not only as a resource but also as an elementary component of landscape and society, is essential. The extreme hydrological events of recent years, the floods in July 2021 and the droughts in the summers of 2018 and 2022, can provide valuable insights and were therefore addressed by many speakers. In addition to lectures covering a wide range of topics, from climatic fundamentals and historical reconstructions to the management of water bodies and their social relevance, hands-on seminars were an important component. The programme was rounded off by excursions to the Maas and the Neue Inde.
